Kevin Rudd’s fair go for polluters

The Australian: After weeks of escalating complaints about its emissions trading scheme, the Rudd Government has agreed to work with the major polluting industries to find a fairer way of distributing compensation in the early years of the scheme.

But a senior government official has rejected high-level suggestions from business that emissions from some new investment projects should not be counted towards a national cap on greenhouse pollution, and discounted the Business Council of Australia’s idea that the price of carbon should be fixed or held at a low level until an international climate change agreement is reached.
