Minor parties force changes to Medicare threshold

The Australian: KEVIN Rudd has bowed to pressure from the minor parties in the Senate and slashed the proposed new income thresholds for the Medicare surcharge to $75,000 for singles.

The Government is also proposing to index the tax penalties for workers who fail to take out private health insurance in a bid to secure elusive Senate support for the measures.
