Rudd’s big chance to seize the day

Ross Gittins: Paul Keating, Labor’s latest patron saint - and, like many saints, venerated much more in retrospect than he was at the time - is right in saying Kevin Rudd and his Government need a “narrative”, an overarching story that encapsulates their objectives and reason for being in office.

But Rudd is trying. In a recent speech he set out “the philosophical framework we bring to government - what we would describe as the reforming centre of Australian politics - recognising the power of markets, but recognising equally the limitations of markets”.
