MP wanted for growing rural seat. Mavericks very welcome

Peter Browne: Unless something very strange happens, Rob Oakeshott will be elected the independent federal member for the NSW federal seat of Lyne this Saturday, taking the place of Mark Vaile, the former Nationals leader.

Oakeshott was once a National Party MP himself — in the state seat of Port Macquarie, which he vacated a few weeks ago — but left the party in early 2002 because, he said, it was being taken over by Bob Jellys.
