Refocusing on schools in need

Richard Teese: The Rudd Government’s push for greater transparency in the performance of schools has been widely read as copycat politics. Successive Liberal ministers were determined to “out” poorly performing schools. How is Kevin Rudd different?

The Prime Minister rightly points out that Howard ministers only ever beat the drum. It was a symbolic attack, a diversion. It covered a massive injection of funds into private schools, thus aggravating the very problem that was meant to be fixed.
