Thai PM declares state of emergency
Sep 3rd, 2008 | By David Harper | Category: WorldThe Australian: Thailand’s Prime Minister declared a state of emergency yesterday in Bangkok, calling it the “softest means available” for restoring order after overnight clashes between government opponents and supporters left one person dead and 43 injured.
Under sweeping powers giving the military the right to restore order, all public gatherings of more than five people are banned and the media must not report news that “causes panic”.
