Simon Pegg is definitely the geek insider of the new crew for JJ Abrams ‘Star Trek’ of the bunch. In a new interview with our friends at Hardcore Nerdity, Pegg goes into more detail on his approach to Scotty and how the film works within Trek.

There has often been much debate about whether JJ Abrams new ‘Star Trek movie’ is a reboot or a remake. Simon Pegg (the new Scotty for Star Trek), a self-described geek who knows the difference, addressed this issue in the latest issue of Starlog Magazine.

For those who may not have picked up on this yet, William Shatner is not in the new Star Trek movie, yet rumors and conjecture persist that maybe he is. But a new pair of interviews with both Shatner and Star Trek director JJ Abrams denying Shat is in the movie should be the final word on this saga.

Creator J.J. Abrams and executive producers Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Burk and Jeff Pinkner spoke in a news conference in New York’s meatpacking district on Aug. 26 about the series before attending a premiere party in Manhattan later that evening.

TrekMovie previously reported that JJ Abrams has completed a first rough cut of his ‘Star Trek movie’ and now it appears that he is showing it off. ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back’ director Kevin Smith was a guest on KROQ’s Kevin and Bean show this morning and the subject of the new Star Trek movie came up.

We think we’re in the perfect position–i.e., out on a limb–to proclaim that Fox’s upcoming SF drama Fringe will be this fall’s breakout success: The show that will knock Heroes out of the sky and bury Lost like Nikki and Paulo on that irritatingly populated desert island.
