Owners who scoop up their dogs’ droppings and place them in specially marked bins on city streets will be eligible for rewards of pet food coupons and dog toys. But droppings found underfoot in the street and matched through the DNA database to a registered pet could earn its owner a municipal fine.

A Florida judge has deemed unconstitutional a law banning saggy pants that show off the wearer’s underwear. The law was approved by Rivers Beach voters in March after supporters of the bill collected nearly 5,000 signatures to put the measure on the ballot.

The authorities in central Niger state charged Mohammed Bello with “insulting religious creed” and “unlawful marriages” after local chiefs and Muslim leaders gave him until September 7 to comply with Islamic sharia law, which allows a man to have no more than four wives at a time.

A Florida woman trying to flee Baker County Sheriff’s deputies accidentally ran over herself Sunday afternoon. Police say she first tried to hit a deputy and then lost control and hit a lawn mower.

A mugger in Italy got more than he bargained for when the woman he tried to rob turned out to be a national karate champion. After punching the man to the floor, Lara Liotta ran to the nearby railway station of Termini and alerted police, who caught the would-be attacker before he could run away.

The threat of global warming is so great that campaigners were justified in causing more than £35,000 worth of damage to a coal-fired power station, a British jury decided yesterday. In a verdict that will have shocked ministers and energy companies the jury at Maidstone Crown Court cleared six Greenpeace activists of criminal damage.

The multi-million-dollar legal battle over a pair of missing pants has headed back to court, shocking many in the dry-cleaning and legal communities. A three-judge appellate court panel has agreed to hear an appeal of the case next month, more than a year after a judge ruled against the plaintiff, former judge Roy Pearson.
