Hugh Laurie is getting a raise for his role as the grumpy diagnostician, Dr Gregory House. The ‘House’ star has had his salary bumped to US$400 000 (AU$503 000) per episode for the upcoming fifth season of the top-rating medical drama.
Another veteran Trek writer/producer out promoting his new show is 2008 Emmy-nominee Bryan Fuller, who is the creator and show-runner for the quirky ABC hit ‘Pushing Daises’. In a new interview Fuller assessed the state of the Trek franchise and talked about how he would love to get another go at a Trek TV series.
The second episode of the J.J. Abrams series picked up an 8.2 rating/13 share. It lost nearly 7 percent of the audience brought in by the season premiere of “House” on Fox, but it didn’t matter. The 8.2 was a 39 percent increase over the series premiere, and helped lead Fox to a Tuesday night win.
The Fox series earned a 3.5 rating/6 share according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research, off 12 percent from its previous series low in its second premiere last week. It even finished lower than its lead-out show “Prison Break,” which ticked a bit higher with a 3.6/5.
In the second-season premiere, John Connor defied his mother, Sarah, and his uncle, Derek Reese, by reactivating the cyborg Cameron, even though her programming had become unstable. Episode two introduced Leven Rambin as Riley, a girl from John’s high school. John again defied Sarah to develop a relationship with Riley.
The Sunday-night special, “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!,” will feature the comedian performing duets with Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello and John Legend. “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart will also exercise his vocal chords alongside “The Colbert Report” host. In addition, Toby Keith will be on hand to perform.
Tim Kring, creator and executive producer of NBC’s ‘Heroes’, said that he is not afraid to answer mythology questions definitively in the upcoming third season–which will only raise more questions. Among other things, the season premiere will settle the question about Claire’s invulnerability in a scene with her and Sylar.
The latest of the themed ‘Collective’ DVD sets coming from CBS Paramount arrives in stores today (Tuesday September 16th) and is focused on ‘Alternate Realties,’ and is chock full with 20 episodes spanning all five series along with some new special features, all for a street price of less than 30 bucks.
