September has finally arrived, and this week SciFi Stream is rolling out a brand new show sub-site to get ready for the big fall season! The new show we’re probably the most excited about is Fringe, the newest paranormal offering from producer J.J. Abrams — the creator of LOST and Alias.

Characters and events from the Nine Network’s telemovie ‘Scorched’ are also featured in an online series of webisodes - one of the first times an Australian-made TV production has ventured into cyberspace. Although US network NBC promoted the upcoming comedy heavily during its recent Olympics coverage, the adaptation of the successful Australian series has reportedly failed to register with uninterested American viewers.

‘Fringe’ centers on FBI agent Olivia Dunham, who finds herself drawn into an investigation of a mysterious aircraft disaster in Boston. Olivia’s desperate search for help to save her gravely injured partner leads to brilliant scientist Walter Bishop, who has been institutionalized for the last 17 years.

Creator J.J. Abrams and executive producers Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Burk and Jeff Pinkner spoke in a news conference in New York’s meatpacking district on Aug. 26 about the series before attending a premiere party in Manhattan later that evening.

Among the pickups were two comedy-driven, New York-based police procedurals: the Nathan Fillion starrer “Castle” and ensembler “The Unusuals.” On the comedy side, the Victor Fresco-penned laffer “Better Off Ted” scored an order, as did the Alyssa Milano sitcom “Single With Parents.”

‘Virtuality’ is centered around what is described as the first interstellar space ship from Earth. Its 12-member crew is on a voyage twice as long as Captain Kirk’s first venture with the Enterprise, and everyone has a chance to experience a holodeck-like virtual reality program to keep them entertained.

The pilot was directed by Francis Lawrence and produced by Erwin Stoff, who worked with Lawrence on the films ‘Constantine’ and ‘I Am Legend’. Ian McShane, who stars in the upcoming drama, described his character as a modern-day King Saul in an updated version of the biblical story of King David’s rise to power.

Creator and executive producer Joss Whedon seemed relaxed about his decision to start over. “Since we are coming into the series at the middle of the story, it’s easy to take a step back,” he said.
